I recently have been changing over from Tripple 7 to Blackhorn 209 in my muzzle loaders. The ones the girls hunt with I sighted in with a charge of 80 grains by volume with 250 grain bullets. Last year they shot two pellets with the same bullet and didn't care for it much. I was thinking the recoil might be less yet if I were to go to 200 grain.

The most reliable load I've ever shot out of a modern No. 209 primer ignition rifle has easily been 110-grains of Blackhorn 209 behind the 300-grain Scorpion PT Gold bullet and Crush Rib Sabot. This is my "go to" load when I hear from anyone having accuracy problems with their rifle.

Yes we all understand Lewis had a bad experience with BH209, we got it. Both guys are passionate about their beliefs. But Lewis you're comparing Apples & Oranges. You go shoot black until your hearts content. Buy the time your done talking I'm guessing you'll be smashing iron plates out to 2-3000 yards. Encore, though got my vote.

BH209 is FAR from a hard propellant to use, its just different from black. Black is an explosive, where as BH is a progressive burning propellant. You put BH down the bore of ANY rifle which is designed to ignite it, use the proper primer and enough force with the bullet on the propellant, it will go off.

One thing the 209 primers can do that the #11 wont, they will send a maxi hunter bullet out of the 15" barrel encore fast enough to shoot it over 30 yards with enough energy to put a big dint in a 2x4.
